"If you like barbecue and you haven’t made it over to North Roan Street to visit the Dixie Barbecue Company, it’s time to plan a trip.  I can tell you that the food is well worth the trip.”

Stephanie Bullock  www.TriCities.com

“ … big portions, but small prices of sandwiches at Dixie Barbecue Company, Inc. of Johnson City, Tennessee.”

Joe Rada, Associate Travel Editor, Southern Living magazine

“The quintessential barbecue joint … As close to real Memphis barbecue as you’ll find outside of
Memphis itself!”

Bob Heffelfinger, Certified Barbecue Judge

“Best Southern barbecue with many homemade sauces, ranging from Alabama to Texas to
Oklahoma.”

“Tangy barbecue - Tennessee style. It's authentic and heaped high at this local bbq favorite. Try the
pulled pork or the savory, marinated chicken. Decor features vanity license plates and a sailboat
strung from the rafters.”

“The chicken sandwich recipe was hustled out of the British Virgin Islands, the Brunswick Stew
technique was imported from south Georgia and one of the most frequently squeezed sauces sports
a north Alabama pedigree.  Dining at Johnson City’s Dixie Barbecue is a lesson in Southern barbecue history.”

Fred Sauceman, Food Writer  www.GoTriCities.com

“… this little restaurant reminded me of an old Southern roadhouse you would expect to find on
some back road deep in the heart of Dixie … This isn’t the usual boil it, burn it, coat it with sauce
and serve it barbecue.  This is the McCoy … All of this has added up to an exemplary little restaurant
that serves wonderful barbecue meals with all the genuine Southern trimmin’s.”

Jim Arber, The Chow Hound  Johnson City Press

“For an education in smokestack cuisine, Dixie-style, we recommend a visit to Dixie Barbecue
Company in Johnson City, Tennessee.”

Pleasure Scene magazine

“OK folks.... this is THE place for barbecue sandwiches. I challenge anyone to prove me wrong
on this one!
Ladies and Gentlemen, this was the best barbecue sandwich that I've had the fortune
to put in my mouth! I was impressed and would strongly urge my fellow food lovers to experience
this place first hand. Be prepared to enjoy yourself.”

“Put all of these ingredients together and you have one of the most unique and probably the best little barbeque joint in the South … The sun rises in Carolina and sets in Tennessee on a great little
barbeque joint … This man is serious about his barbeque.”

Dave & Carrie Carter, The Loafer, Johnson City, TN

DIXIE BARBECUE - N. Roan Street, Johnson City, TN:  “Specializing in good old southern
barbecue and all the fixins! Owner Alan Howell is a great friend of the SCV, and proudly displays
the First National flag of the Confederacy presented to him by our camp.:

Sons of Confederate Veterans, Camp #1817

“What’s truly remarkable about Dixie Barbeque is not how many different things it offers, but how
good the different things it offers are.  Here at Dixie, the ribs cook a minimum of four hours over
smoldering wood; pork shoulders go a full twelve. The result is delicious meat, the smoky flavor
of which stays with you for hours after eating a meal. Our favorite among the choices is chopped
pork – juicy, flavorful, and elegant in a quintessential Carolinian way. Next-best is sliced pork
typical of Eastern Tennessee. And we cannot dine here without at least a quarter rack of ribs.
They are crusty and chewy, smoke-flavored and delicious even without any sauce whatsoever.”
